Dapo Idowu laid to rest

An aide of the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, Dapo Idowu, was finally laid to rest at the Ikoyi Vaults on Friday, December 29, 2017.

Idowu died in Abuja during a workout on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

Reacting to the demise of his aide, Saraki expressed shock and sadness at the sudden death of Dapo Idowu, whom he described as “loyal, honest and dedicated”.

The Senate President, who was physically present with the wife at the funeral service, which held at The First African Church Mission, Christ Church Cathedral, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, on Friday, 29th December, 2017, could not hide his grief as he intermittently cleaned his face.

The Wake keep was earlier on Thursday held at The Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

Both clergy and laity who spoke at the Wake Keep said, “The late Idowu had contributed much to the lives of those who at one time or the other crossed his path.

The children described their father as “hero, role model and not just a father figure but a friend.

“We are proud of him, we appreciate him and will miss him greatly.”

In a citation, the wife, Yetunde Idowu, also described him as a dedicated, forthright, loving and caring husband, who was firm, but calm when it comes to me and the children.

His son, Ayo Idowu described the father’s death as a great loss to his family, friends and relatives, saying, “this is really hard on me”.

Also speaking, Mrs Oluwayomi Kuku, the second child, described him as her “beloved dad”, stating that though he has gone physically but yet lived on in her heart.

“Dad, you lived your life contented with what you had in all humility and generosity, with so many sacrifices for us to get where we are today.

“I’ll miss our gists”

Olamide the last born described her late father as her first love.

“My dad taught and showed me how to love care and be humble. He taught me to forgive and be a blessings to others.”

“I sorely will miss him”

Several others, including family and friends at the Wake Keep and church extolled the deceased and prayed that the Lord grant him rest.

The funeral event, which was manned by Ebony Funeral Services, witnessed role calls of who is who in the country and friends and relations from home and abroad, including the Olori Ebi of Onipede family of Badagry and former Minister of Health and Human  Resources, Prince Julius and his wife, Julia Adelusi-Adeluyi (OFR), Minister Kunle Awojoodu, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Hon Gbenga Makanjuola, Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba among others.
