Be vanguard of peace, Emir charges Peace Corps

 

The Emir of llorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has called on the Nigeria Peace Corps to be vanguard of peaceful co-existence for development to be attained in the country.
The monarch made the call in his message on Saturday at the presentation of award of excellence to the National Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akoh in llorin.
The award, which was at the instance of the llorin Emirate Youths Integrity Vanguard, was received by the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps in Kwara, Lukman Yekini on behalf of Akoh.
Sulu-Gambari, who was represented by the Balogun Afin of llorin, Alhaji Mohammed Nuhu, noted that no meaningful development could be attained in an atmosphere of chaos and acrimony.
The Emir urged the Nigerian Peace Corps to ensure peace and unity in the country adding that the corps must play a complementary role with other security outfits in the state.
He also advocated enlistment of more indigenes of the state into the corps as a way of minimising unemployment among youths.
The Emir applauded the llorin Emirate Youths Vanguard for initiating the award and advised other social organisations to emulate them.
In his remarks, the Guest Speaker, Alhaji Ahmed Ayinla, who is a lecturer at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, stated that peace is non negotiable for society to attain economic growth.
A founding member of the Ilorin Emirate Youth vanguard, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Aiyelabegan, urged the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps in Kwara to abide with norms and traditions of the state and ensure that peace reign at all times.
In his response, the state Commandant of the corps, Lukman Yekini, pledged to intensify efforts towards peaceful co-existence among the people of the state.
