My daughter wished to become Scholar, says father of 10-yr-old who died inside well

Mr Asimi Lawal’s hope of seeing his beloved daughter, Nafisat Kehinde become a scholar was dashed last Monday after the 10-year-old drowned inside a well at the family residence – Oriolowo Compound, Adeta area in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Speaking with National Pilot recently, father of the deceased, Mr Lawal, who described the incident as a mystery said Kehinde was a brilliant girl who excelled in her studies.
According to Lawal, who is a welder, the little girl left home alongside her twin sister left home for school before 8am only to return an hour later.
“I was in my shop when I heard that someone fell into the well and on getting there, there was a large crowd and a boy jumped into the well but came out claiming he did not anyone. Another boy entered the well and said he saw a reflection of school uniform.
“At that point someone called the fire service and they evacuated my daughter’s body but to my surprise there was no water coming out from her mouth when we pressed the stomach. We rushed her to the hospital and we were told she had died,” he lamented.
Speaking further, Lawal said, the family has accepted their fate as true Muslims adding that the incident has been predestined.
“This is not the first time my daughter will be fetching water from the well herself.”
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the mother of Kehinde widely known as Iya Ibeji said, “I left home around 6am and the twins saw me off. I never knew that was the last time I will be seeing my daughter,” she bemoaned.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service Funsho Alaro said as soon as the distress call was received officers were dispatched to rescue Kehinde but the girl died before the team arrived the scene of the incident.
