By Ahmed Ajikobi

A suspected female kidnapper was yesterday morning set ablaze in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

It was gathered that the woman had gone to a school within Kilanko area around 9 am where she attempted to take custody of a twin on the pretext that their mother had sent her to pick them up.

Luck, however, ran out of the woman when the mother of the twins was informed that a woman had come to take her children away.

The unnamed mother was said to have run to the school, screaming that she did not send anyone to take custody of her babies.

Subsequently passersby and residents of the area who were attracted by the woman’s whimper stormed the school where the suspected kidnapper was being held.

The suspect was said to have later been pulled out from the school and marched down to the Ajase-Ipo road, by the irate mob.

Efforts by some concerned residents to pacify the crowd so that the suspect could be taken to a police station were rebuffed.

The mob later set the suspect ablaze around 10 am.

When our reporter visited the scene, the scalded body of the suspect was discovered lying on the median kerb.

Men of the Kwara State police command were said to have made sporadic arrest of onlookers and passersby, on arrival at the scene of the incident.

Speaking on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi said the suspect had been lynched before the arrival of police officers adding that investigations have commenced.

Okasanmi also confirmed that some arrests were made though he could not give details of the numbers of people arrested so far. He however warned against jungle justice adding that the public should always hand over suspects to security operatives in their communities.
