Former Commissioner for Special Duties in Kwara state, Alhaji Razaq Lawal has asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to concentrate on its own campaigns instead of focusing on the alleged certificate scandal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
According to Lawal now that the WAEC has cleaderd Adeleke it would be futile for the APC to still use that as a campaign issue except if the party is already rattled and jittery over its imminent defeat in the gubernatorial poll.
He said :”Quality politics is all about effective presentation of ideas and issues and unless the APC is jittery, which in any case we know is the situation they should come forward with tangible issues and not any certificate scandal. They should tell Nigerians and especially the people of Osun state what they are bringing to the table in place of the huge debt burden and uneven development they have brought on that noble state. ”
He said the APC should be mindful of the fact that ” up till today, Nigerians have not known the true position on the issue of the certificate of Mr president. ”
Also speaking on the recent violence witnessed during campaigns by some APC gubernatorial aspirants in Kwara state, Lawal who is also the state secretary of the PDP lamented that it has brought an unwelcome development to the issue of aspirations, saying if truly they were interested in serving the people there should be no resort to violence.
He therefore charged aspirants across party lines to play according to the rule of the game and allow their respective delegates decide who amongst them all is their own choice.
“The issue of recent violence is disappointing and uncalled for”, he said, adding that “if truly you want to go and serve the people that is not the right route. Why don’t you take time to sell your ideas to the people concerned instead of creating panic in the society?
“Nigeria today needs people who understand that you don’t force yourself on the electorate but rather sell yourself and let them be convinced that you are a good product. Violence cannot win you any credible vote and acceptance by the populace. If they can resort to violence preparatory to primaries what would they do during the primaries or even during the real election? We need to caution such violent aspirants that Kwara is not their turf, we don’t want them here.”
