Liverpool ends City’s EPL unbeaten run

Manchester City’s unbeaten run in the Premier League finally came to an end following their nervy 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Prior to the defeat to Liverpool, City had gone 22 games without defeat, winning 20 games and drawing two.

Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane ensured the Reds got the big win.

Leroy Sane got City’s first goal after cancelling out Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opener before Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan scored late in the game.

Despite the defeat, City still lead in the league table on 62 points, 15 points ahead of second placed Manchester United who will host Stoke on Monday at Old Trafford.

The win lifted Liverpool to third position on 47 points.

Liverpool had the first sight of goal in the fourth minute through Mohamed Salah whose shot was blocked by the City defenders.

In the 59th minute, Liverpool went 2-1 up as Firmino out-muscled John Stone before chipping the ball over Ederson.

Liverpool was on target again in 62 minutes, going ahead 3-1 through Mane who blasted the ball into the top corner after Salah nicked the ball off Otamendi.

Things went from bad to worse for City as Salah made it 4-1 after beating Ederson from 35-yards following a poor clearance from the Brazilian keeper.

In the 77th minute Otamendi went close to making amends for his mistake but failed to connect with a cross.

With six minutes left Silva reduced the deficit as he swept his effort from close-range into the back of the net to make it 4-2.

And in the 91st minute City scored again through Gundogan to make it 4-3 but it was too little too late as Liverpool held on to claim the win.
