Misau raises alarm on plot to remove Saraki, says minister pulling the strings

The senator representing Bauchi central at the National Assembly, Isah Misau, has raised the alarm over alleged plot to remove the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Misau said this on the floor of the senate, yesterday, while contributing to a motion sponsored by the senator representing Taraba south, Shuaibu Lau, on herdsmen attacks in his state.
Misau alleged that a serving minister was the arrowhead of the plot which was orchestrated during the period of the recess.
He however did not reveal the identity of the minister.
The Bauchi Senator said the purported move to remove Saraki came about as a result of the rumour that he was planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He wondered why issues in the country had to be tied to religion and tribe.
But Saraki’s media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu declined comment on the issue last night.
In a telephone chat with National Pilot, Olaniyonu asked the reporter to speak with Misau who made the allegation, adding that he had no comment on the issue.
“Speak with Misau himself who make the allegation. I don’t have any comment on it, no comment”, he emphasised.
According to Misau, while the members were in recess, people were hatching the plot to remove Saraki.
He said “When we were on holiday, so many people were going behind that they should try and remove the senate president, Bukola Saraki and a minister was spearheading that thing.
“What is the reason? They said that the Senate President would leave APC that they should create problems for him. What kind of country is this? Everything is about religion, about tribe.
On the security situation in the country, he said it was time for the country to walk the talk rather than talking and holding conferences.
“It is high time for us to act. If it’s about talking here or holding conferences, it would not solve this problem (of security challenges). We should look at security, who and who are holding offices, are they appointed by merit?
He said many of the appointments in the country were not done on merit, adding that the government is not sincere about fighting corruption
“So many appointments in this government are not on merit. Some people have taken over the government as if they are even above the president. We say we are fighting corruption. Babachir Lawal that the vice-president’s committee indicted… why can’t they take him to court and all of us are here keeping quiet. People who have not done anything are always in court.
“This attorney-general is becoming a nuisance, going to court to stop Maina (probe) and we are still here.”
