The last few months have been unpleasant in terms of news coming from the camps of former players of the senior national team.
First, news went viral on the mental instability of former captain of the Golden Eaglets, Wilson Oruma. Before his present predicament, Oruma was said to have been duped by a Lagos pastor in conjunction with some ‘businessmen’. The player was reportedly duped of all his life savings running into N1.2billion. It is however cheering to hear of late that the former Marseille midfielder is recovering fast and that he has been offered an Ambassadorial role by his kinsman and the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick ahead of Russia 2018. Getting the player a job when he eventually regains his mental stability will go a long way in giving Oruma a fresh hope to stay alive.
Similarly, Oruma’s former teammate, Kanu had his hospitality outfit in Lagos, Hardley Apartments shut by Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), last week over an alleged N9billion debt.
The agency claimed it had obtained a Federal High Court order in 2015 to take possession of the property located at N0 46, Waziri Ibrahim Crescent, off Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. AMCON claimed having exhausted all avenues for a peaceful resolution on the alleged huge debt owed the corporation, hence the need to take the matter to court.
As if that was not enough, the wife of the former Arsenal forward, Amarachi posted a message on her Intagram handle suggesting a crack in Kanu’s marriage.
According to the statement, Amarachi accused Ogbonna, the younger brother of Kanu of meddling in the affairs of the family of the former Inter Milan and Ajax star.
She also alleged that Ogbonna has continued to get better attention of his brother than his children and wife. Amarachi claimed that the younger Kanu (Ogbonna) spends more time with his brother than with his new wife. She however urged Ogbonna to give her family a breathing space by spending the larger part of his time with his new wife.
While I will not want to pry into another man’s family, I however believe for Amarachi who Kanu married when she was barely 18, to have raised those allegations on her social media page, it is likely she had overlooked many unpalatable incidents,
