A corporal, Daramola Tosin who reportedly killed and buried his boss, Insp. Lateef Shuiab, in Osi, Ekiti local government division of Kwara State will on 28 February, 2018 resume his trial at the High Court.
Tosin was dragged before Justice Adebayo Yusuf on murder allegation sometimes in May, 2016.
He was standing a one count charge which reads, โ…You corporal Daramola Tosin on or about sixth day of May 2016 at Osi police station, Kwara State within the jurisdiction of this court committed culpable homicide, causing death of one Inspector, by shooting him with your AK-47 riffle…committed offence punishable by death under section 221 of the Penal Code Law.
The charge sheet before the court reveals that Tosin killed his boss in a bid to cover up his atrocities. It further stated that the accused betrayed the trust of his boss who gave him his personal ATM card to be withdrawing money for him at his request.
It was learnt that the accused had dishonestly transferred money from Shuaib’s account without the knowledge of the late Inspector, to the tune of N300,000.
While Daramola was defecating in the bush, it was learnt that Tosin shot the latter with his AK-47 rifle and buried him near Osi Police Station where they were both serving.
According to reports, late Shuaib’s sister, Sherifat Hammed, reported the matter on 10th May to the Osi Police station that her brother had not been seen since May 6.
Hammed had also reported that she suspected Tosin, as her late brother told her that when he was sick, he gave the suspect his ATM card, based on trust, to be withdrawing money from his account on his behalf.
The accused who was reported to have once pleaded guilty to the plaintiff at the police station pleaded otherwise before the trial court.
Recall that the matter was first brought before Magistrate Nurudeen Adeyanju who ordered its transfer for lack of jurisdiction to try it.
