2 suspects remanded for stealing DSP’s pistol in Offa

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, yesterday remanded two suspects in prison custody for stealing a pistol belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Ahmed Aliyu, Offa division.
The suspects; Kazeem Adewoye, of Ojomu Doyin compound and Olayinka Aderibigbe of Isale Oja Owode area in Offa were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Bio Salihu.
They were charged for criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and theft contrary to sections 6(b) & (2)3 of robbery and firearm (special provision) act, cap R11 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and section 287 of penal code law.
According to the First Information Report, the case was transfered from Divisional Police Headquarters, Offa to the Criminal Investigation Intelligence Department, Ilorin for discreet investigation on 10th February, 2018.
It also revealed that one Sgt. Adeniyi Adetayo attached to Zenith Bank Plc, Offa and two others, following an hint that some middle aged men were sighted with a pistol at the back of Total filling station, railway crossing area, moved to the scene where the first suspect was arrested while his cohort escaped.
The FIR stated that Adewoye confessed to have stolen the Makarov pistol from the drawer DSP who happens to be Divisional Crime Officer 1 (DCO), of the Division while he was praying in the mosque on 6th February, 2018.
The suspect further mentioned Olayinka Aderibigbe as his cohort who escaped with the pistol.
Upon the arrest of the second suspect, who as well confessed to the crime, the gun was recovered from their hide out in an uncompleted building in Offa.
The prosecutor, Abdulquadri Jimoh however prayed the court to remand the suspects in prison pending the completion of police investigation.
The court ordered the suspects to be remanded in prison for lack jurisdiction to hear the matter even as he adjourned the case to 15th March, 2018 for mention.
