Lost composure facing senior colleague as rookie

Audu Abdultateef Shola secured admission in 2004 to study Common and Islamic Law at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Nigeria and graduated 2008. That same year, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and was called to Bar in 2009. He had his NYSC programme in Igbinedon University, Edo State. Subsequently, he started his legal attachment with Barr. Ambali, a law firm at Stadium road, Ilorin. For his LL.M, Shola went back to Unilorin and joined Tunde Olomu Chambers after the completion of his LL.M programme. He shares with our JUDICIARY CORRESPONDENT, KAYODE ADEOTI, the day he considers unforgettable in his legal practice
The event that comes to my mind often, times, which I will consider as my daunting day in court happened a long time ago when I was younger at the Bar. Then, I was still with my former boss, Tunde Olomu of Tunde Olomu & Co. What was challenging, amazing and unforgettable in the event was the fact that my principal sent me to appear against someone who is by far my senior, Mr Jawondo. In fact, he’s my boss’ senior. Moving an application in court that day was a difficult task because as at then, I was still learning.
When Mr Jawondo rose to respond to my application, he said all what I filed were worthless, I was baffled. On my part, in my submission, I remembered I told him that all what he filed too were ‘useless papers’. The judge in amazement responded and said 1-1. The court statement was fun but I was a bit scared, it got to a point that I couldn’t make proper announcement of the name of the junior counsel that followed me.
Initially, I thought Mr Jawondo will send junior counsel to appear for that matter considering the fact that I was a young wig but lo and behold, he handled it himself.
