The Osi community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has denied attacking residents of neighbouring Isare-Opin community over alleged encroachment on their cashew plantation and harvest of the fruit and nuts without permission.
This was contained in a statement issued yesterday and signed by one Sam Bola Onile, the spokesman of Osi Welfare Association.
It would be recalled that a number of people were injured and property worth millions of naira damaged after a clash broke out between residents of both Ekiti communities, penultimate weekend.
The Osi Welfare Association said contrary to what was reported in the newspaper, the people of the community are known for peace.
Some part of the statement reads; “The Olosi of Osi and Chairman of the Ekiti Traditional Council, Oba Saliu Adasofegbe wish to state that the Osi community has been known as peace loving people that are very accommodating. We don’t discriminate against background and political differences.”
The statement further said, Oba Adasofegbe has urged Ekiti indigenes to remain one big family by shunning vices for even development of the area.
He assured that when completed, the Kwara State University (KWASU) campus in Ekiti will boost socio-economic activities of the area.
The Olosi however acknowledged the giant stride of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in developing the state particularly Ekiti communities. He assured the present administration of the support of his people at all times.
