NLC to KWSG: Initiate empowerment programmes for women

The Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has appealed to the state government to initiate empowerment programmes in order to alleviate the sufferings of women in the state.
The state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Yekeen Agunbiade stated this during the commemoration of International Women’s Day by Kwara Labour Women Wing on Saturday.
He specifically called on the state government to empower labour women in the agricultural sectors such as cash crops farming, poultry, fishing, among others.
The Chairman also urged the government to provide soft loans for women to engage in small scale businesses to improve their living standard.
On her part, the NLC state Chairperson, Comrade Asmau Saka Apalando appealed to the state government to enhance gender policy by employing more women in the civil service cadre.
In her remarks, the wife of the Kwara State Governor,, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Felicia Kisira called on women to register for their voter’s card ahead of 2019 general elections.
“Your voter’s card is your strength therefore, I want you to encourage all your family members to register and don’t vote for wrong candidates in 2019 general elections and don’t sell your cards to anybody,” she said.
She however encouraged the women to acquire more education in order to upgrade their status in the society.
