Gov’s aide unites Babalonma community ahead 2019 polls
The Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor on Religion (Christian Affairs), Reverend Cornelius Fawenu during a historic meeting of political gladiators at Babanloma called on all sons and daughters of the community to unite for their common good.
He urged the people of the community to henceforth shun politics of bitterness and acrimony for politics of togetherness for community development.
Fawenu, who also holds the traditional title of Fiwajoye of Babanloma land narrated that his foray into partisan politics is never diversionary but divinely ordained in order to contribute to good governance and improve government presence in his area.
He further stated that the opinion that clerics should distance themselves from partisan politics is a modern day phenomenon because in time past, the kings and the priests were the custodian of community leadership.
Fawenu, noted that the community has benefited immensely from the Saraki political leadership in Kwara State. He listed some of the political patronage benefitted by the community in the past to include national assembly seat as senator, state party chairmanship, council chairman, commissionership, membership of federal and state boards, career appointments such as permanent secretary among others.
The cleric therefore called on the community to fully support the structure that holds promises of better days by voting for all the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state in the 2019 general elections.
Speaking, Mr Shola Ogunshola, the son of renowned educationist and former state chairman of defunct All Peoples Party (APP), late Prof. Albert Ogunshola, called on the people of the community to renew the spirit of oneness with which they approached politics in the past and which brought development to the area.
He noted that the community has struggled to make significant progress in recent times that her leaders worked at cross purposes.
Other speakers included a former permanent member in Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Yakub Abdulahi. He applauded Mr Ogunshola for recognising the legendary cordiality that existed between the Ogunshola and Saraki family.
Also in attendance were; Mr, Samson Kayode, a board member in the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation, Alhaja Afusat Mohammed ( Board Member, Kwara TV), party elders, including Alh Garuba Olaoye, Alh Toyin Ibrahim, serving and former supervisory councillors in Ifelodun local government, Hon. Funsho Bolaji-Adetoro, and Hon. Dare Idowu among others.
