IVTEC commences training in solar technology

 

No fewer than 25 beneficiaries of training scholarship at the International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-ipo have begun training in solar installation, troubleshooting and maintenance.

Speaking with newsmen at the College, yesterday, the Acting Rector, Dr Ade Somide disclosed that the training is an empowerment programme by the Kwara State Government in partnership with the contractor handling the Light up Kwara (LUK) project, Riccofortezza-Asteven Energy Limited.

He noted that the selection process of the 25 beneficiaries was based on predetermined criteria. He added that under the programme, the trainees will undergo two weeks training at IVTEC and a week at the Asteven Renewable Academy in Ogun State.

The rector disclosed that after the training, the beneficiaries will each be supported with business startup package of N1m worth of solar products by Riccofortezza-Asteven Energy Limited and commended the company for being socially and environmentally responsible.

Somide encouraged other companies engaged by the Kwara State government to emulate Riccofortezza-Asteven Energy Limited in giving back to the State.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Riccofortezza-Asteven Energy Limited, Dr. Dickson Aleroh said the programme will equip beneficiaries with training in solar installation, troubleshooting and maintenance.

He said the company, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) decided to empower youths in the State.

Aleroh further added that apart from the N1m startup package, beneficiaries will be mentored and trained in entrepreneurship in the industry, adding that the company had put in place the necessary machinery to ensure the continuity of the training.

Aleroh commended the State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed for his innovative approach in implementing renewable energy, particularly solar technology in the State.

Some of the trainees, Atolagbe Rachael and Ajibola Oluwaseun, in separate interviews, appreciated the Kwara Government and Riccofortezza-Asteven Energy Limited for initiating the programme which they said is empowering them to be employers of labour.
