5 face trial over Oyun/Offa LG land dispute

Five persons from Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State are currently facing trial before Magistrate Nurudeen Adeyanju over a land dispute.

The First Information Report revealed that the crisis over the land is between the Ojomu family in Offa and Ipe community in Oyun local government  area of the state.

The suspects; Mudashiru Aina, Adewale Bakare, Jimoh Rasheed, Olushola Opadokun, and Oyeniyi Bukoye were however arrested at the scene of the incident.

They were charged to court for criminal conspiracy, criminal force and assault, inciting disturbance and mischief contrary to sections 97, 265, 114 and 327 of penal code.

The FIR further stated that on May 18th, 2017, the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (CIID) police headquarters, Ilorin from Offa.

Discreet investigation carried out by CIID disclosed that the suspects conspired to unleash attack on surveyors Ayoniyi Abiodun, Ogunwoye Philip, and Adegoyega John who were said to be carrying out their legitimate work on a site within the area of the incident.

“Further investigation also revealed that the suspects also attacked one Isaac Olusegun and one Ogunlola Nathaniel both indigenes of Ipe community…”

The hearing of the matter was stalled on Tuesday following the absence of the police witness.

The prosecutor, James Odaodu informed the court that the witness, ASP Kareem could not be in court, adding that he was on investigative assignment with the new Police Commissioner of the state.

Meanwhile, the witness was supposed to be cross examined by the defence counsel, Prince Seun Ijaodola.

Magistrate Adeyanju however adjourned the matter to 22nd May, 2018 for continuation of hearing.
