Kwara approves upward review of Kaiama/Kishi road project

The Kwara State Government on Tuesday, approved the upward review of the contract sum of Kaiama/Kishi road project from the initial N7.9b to N9.8b.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, who made the disclosure at a press briefing shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held in Ilorin, explained that the council gave nod to the increase due to the current economic reality in the country.
He added that the council considered the upward review of the project necessary due to several complaints from the contractor handling the project.
Aro Yahaya explained that the council approved additional N1.9b for the project to enable the contractor fast track the completion of the project for the benefit of Kwarans plying the route.
He added that final decision as regards other contractors involved in the project would be taken by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Mohammed Isiak Sabi told newsmen that the council deliberated on the Kwara Day Dress policy.
He explained that the policy will encourage all civil servants in the state to dress in their cultural attires with a view to promoting their culture and tradition.
He stated further that the council has directed the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the office of the Head of Service to work together in choosing a particular day to be dedicated for it.
The Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Odewale, said the 2018 budget was critically examined, adding that the budget had recorded 61 per cent in terms of overall performance.
He stressed that the council was excited with the feat recorded despite the current economic reality even as the presentation of the 2019 budget before the state House of Assembly was approved by the council.
