2018 BECE gets new date in Kwara, today

The 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for Junior Secondary School Students will today get new date in Kwara State.

BECE has twice been postponed after both private and public schools resume for the third term, three weeks ago. The examination was earlier scheduled to start two days after resumption but was postponed for another week for reasons that were not made official yet by the Kwara State Government.

However, when contacted on the phone on Friday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Maryam Garuba, said the state government will today (Monday) announce a new date for BECE.

According to her, preparation is on top gear to ensure a hitch free conduct of the examination.

Last year, 86.3 per cent of the 43,430 students who sat for BECE passed the examination.

During the presentation of the result in September, 2017, Hajia Garuba, said, “This year’s result of the Basic Education Certificate Examination is unprecedented as students performed tremendously well.”

The Permanent Secretary attributed the students’ performance to good leadership and team work by the stakeholders, adding that the Ministry will continue to put in strategies to ensure that results from the state continue to improve every year.’

 Hajia Garuba however acknowledged that more work needed to be done to sustain the achievement.
