KWSG warns contractor on adherence to specification

 

Contractors handling the construction of Michael Imodu/Afon junction have been warned by the Kwara State Government to adhere strictly to standard and specification in the execution of the road project.

The warning was emphasised recently by the team of state Ministry of Works and Transport, led by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Garba Manjo during an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged culvert along Michael Imodu/Afon road construction project.Manjo disclosed that the inspection came about due to several complaints from the general public while noting that the state government as stakeholders in the Federal Government’s road construction project, will give no room for substandard projects, especially as it affects the good people of Kwara State.

He also observed that poor supervision on the part of the contractors was also a major factor hindering the construction. Manjo however called on the resident Engineer to fast track the reconstruction to avoid undue embarrassment on the part of government.

In another development, the newly reappointed Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Jamiudeen Yahya has called for support of staffers of the ministry.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry,  Hajia Mansurat Amuda-Kannike, yesterday.

The commissioner gave the charge during an interactive session with staff at the ministry, shortly after his swearing-in alongside 18 others at the Government House, Ilorin.

Yahya further urged the staff to step up their commitment to duty in order to ensure the attainment of goals of the present administration.

He appreciated the workers for their understanding during his first term in office even as he appealed to all to work as a team for effective service delivery.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Manjo appreciated Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for the reappointment of the commissioner in order to ensure continuity.

He noted that Yahya’s return will encourage the staff to work harder and diligently even as he called for continuous support from the staffers.

Manjo also charged the workforce of the ministry to abide by the rules of the civil service through punctuality, diligence, commitment and absolute loyalty.

 


…reads riot act to principals asking for concrete block from students

Appalled by recent rumour of some public schools principals asking students to bring concrete blocks to school, the Kwara State Government has warned schools administrators to desist from any act capable of truncating the laudable efforts of the present administration in its bid to provide qualitative education for all.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Maryam Ayodeji Garuba gave the warning during a meeting with Principals of public schools in Kwara State at St. Anthony Secondary School, recently.

Hajia Garuba who condemned the act in its totality warned principals engaged in such inimical practice to desist forthwith or face stiff sanction.

The Permanent Secretary also implored Principals of Public Secondary School to be wary of any visitor claiming to come from the ministry to intimidate them on their job. She urged them to always ask for letters of authority from the ministry from such intruders and also call the appropriate quarters to confirm the identity of the visitors.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has announced dates for the 2018 entrance examination for Junior Secondary school.

In a statement signed by the Press Secretary of the ministry, Mallam Kamaldeen Yakubu Aliagan, the Permanent Secretary disclosed that the 2018 state entrance examination for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools (JSS and SSS) will come up on Saturday 16th June 2018 while the Joint mock exam will take place from 18th to 22 June 2018.

While wishing all the candidates success in the forthcoming exams, the Permanent Secretary warned against any act of examination malpractice.
