KWASU VC appeals to Buhari over TV, radio licences

The Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, (KWASU), Malete, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, has begged President Muhammadu Buhari to approve radio and television licences for the institution.
According to him, application for the licences has been on President’s table for over a year.
He made the appeal in the university, on Tuesday, at a briefing on the institution’s sixth convocation.
Prof. Na’Allah said: “We are appealing to the President to approve licence for our radio and television stations.
That is the only thing left for us; we have completed the installations of all our facilities and are not asking for money from anyone.
“All we need is the licence. Our students seriously need them to enhance their studies. “From the information at our disposal, the application has been on his table for well over a year.
“We are using this medium to appeal to our amiable President to please give his assent.”
Meanwhile, KWASU will for the first time confer doctorate honorary degree on three distinguished Africans for their contributions to humanity and services to the African continent.
The honorees, according to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Na’ Allah are former President of South Africa, Mr. Tambo Mbeki, the founder of Guarantee Trust Bank, Mr. Tajudeen Fola Adeola and a popular Ilorin poet and Dadakuada singer, Alhaji Jaiyigbade Alao.
While speaking on the choice of the three honourees, the VC said Mr. Mbeki who took over from Nelson Mandela as South African President contributed immensely to the growth of African nation, especially in reshaping and transforming of Organization of African Union (OAU) to African Union (AU), saying that he would be conferred with honorary doctorate degree in Political Science.
He added that the founder of Guarantee Trust Bank, Mr. Tajudeen Fola Adeola was chosen as an entrepreneur and for its investment in the banking sector especially in the establishment of GTB in 1999 and for helping the country fine tune Nigeria Pension Scheme, adding that he would be conferred with honorary doctorate degree in Entrepreneurship.
He explained that the King Artist and Dadakuada singer, Alhaji Jayigbade Alao would be conferred with honorary doctorate degree in Literature for his contributions to poetry development, describing him as one of the best African poet.
The Vice Chancellor said the honorees would be decorated in a special convocation ceremony.
