Don’t dwell on defeat, Christians advised

Christians have been advised to see defeat in any area of their lives as challenge, instead of wallowing in self pity or depression.
Pastor Gideon Majekodunmi in charge of the Vine Parish, gave the admonition in his sermon during Sunday service, yesterday.
Speaking on the title ‘God of Jephthat,’ he urged believers to focus on their Maker in times of tribulations, adding that He is the only one who can see them through the vicissitudes of life.
He noted that defeat may be tempororal citing biblical Jephthat, Joseph, Paulย  and Jesusย  as examples of people who emerged victorious from their tribulations.
“During your times of trouble never leave God. This is because your family members may reject you but God will not leave you. The enemies are infact members of his household as reflected by the Bible.
“Jephthat was rejected by his brothers but later became their saviour. Joseph was betrayed by his brothers but later became the pillar of the family.
“When people reject you, don’t be discouraged. Don’t let anything discourage you from serving the Lord. Turn to the word of God to renew your strength.
“Like Paul you should be able to boast that nothing can separate you from the love of Christ. And believe in the word of God which says we are more than conqueror,” he added.
Pastor Majekodunmi also advised Christians to always make vows to God when they experience cross roads, which must be redeemed when their prayers have been answered.
He, however, warned against making ‘foolish’ vows, which may be irredeemable, pointing out that it could bring about protracted problem in the life of such Christian.
