Saraki Acquittal: KWHA praises judiciary for ensuring Justice

 

The Kwara State House of Assembly has eulogised the nation’s judiciary for demonstrating commitment to Justice and sustaining its slogan of being the last hope of common man.

This was the resolution of the House following a Motion on the Need to Commend the Judiciary over Saraki’s Triumph at the Supreme Court, sponsored by member representing Ilorin North West Constituency, Hon Abdul Rafiu Abdul Rahman, at the floor of the House.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon Mathew Okedare who presided over Tuesday’s sitting, while reading the resolutions of the House, described the Senate President as the most vilified politician by his own party in the world and expressed delight that the nation’s judicial system had with the judgement, demonstrated its determination in ensuring justice and fair hearing for all and sundry.

It would be recalled, that the Supreme Court had last Friday acquitted the Senate President of the remaining 3 charges of false asset declaration, before the Code of Conduct Bureau, by the federal government.

Hon. Abdul Rafiu Abdul Rahman, had while moving the Motion,expressed concerned, that inspite of the ruling of the CCT discharging and acquitting Dr. Saraki of all the 13 count charge, the federal government still went ahead to appeal the ruling, at the Court of Appeal.

The House Leader, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, members representing Oke Ogun, and Omupo Constituencies, Barrister Kamal Fagbemiย and Hon Mashood Bakare,while contributing on the Motion,hinged the nation’s progress on equity and Justice and advocated greater synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government in strengthening the county’s hard won democracy.

They also commended the Senate President for his patience and commitment in the performance of his duty, inspite of distractions in the last 3yrs of his persecution by the federal government.

…suspends sitting to Late Chief Legislative Officer

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended sittingย ย in honour of the Chief Administrative Officer /Chief Legislative Officer, Hajia Mariam Toyin Saliu, who died at the Ilorin General Hospital on Tuesday.

The Speaker, Dr.Ali Ahmad, who presided over the Wednesday’s sitting, announced the demise of the Chief Legislative Officer and directed members to observed a minute silence for the repose of her soul.

Dr. Ahmad who was visibly disturbed, disclosed that the House had resolved to adjourn sitting,till the next legislative day, as a mark of respect for the deceased.

ย He described Hajia Mariam Toyin Soliu as a honest,committed and thorough bred legislative officer, whose service would be missed by the legislature.

The Speaker then prayed Allah to grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss and the departed soul Al- Janat Fridouz.

The House equally observed a minute silent in honour of the father of the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House, Prof Mohammed Yisa Gana, who passed on few days ago.
