Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, members of the State Executive Council, politicians and party faithful on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero/Ekiti Federal constituency, Hon Funke Deborah Adedoyin.
During a valedictory service at the Banquet Hall, Ilorin, organised in the honour of the lawmaker, Governor Ahmed, said the deceased had lots of achievements and will be greatly missed not only in Kwara but Nigeria at large.
“Death will catch us unaware no matter how prepared we are. I got to know her (Funke) for the first time in 1999 when she was minister of state for Women Affairs and later as minister of state for Heath.
“Her outstanding performances justified her various robust accomplishments despite her family heritage. A family that has its mark felt in the business landscape of Nigeria. Through hard work and focus, she became an accomplished person.
“On behalf of myself, my family and the good people of Kwara State, I wish her gentle soul rest in peace,” the governor said.
Speaking, Bishop Jide Adebayo of Anglican Communion, Iludun-Oro Diocese, eulogised the late Adedoyin as a leader who connected with her people.
He charged all political office holders to be wary of their deeds as they will one day render their stewardship before God.
“Followers too should be mindful of their deeds and ready to give accounts after death. They should also shun collection of money from politicians before exercising their civic rights,” he warned.
Also speaking, the former deputy governor of Kwara State, Chief Joel Ogundeji described the former minister as a philanthropist and woman of value.
“What I know about her is that she was humble, respectful and she impacted lots of people. I remember when we went to Omu-Aran together for the thanksgiving of the late Olomu, Oba Charles Ibitoye, people were shouting her name which showed her connection with the downtrodden,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State, Prof. Timothy Opoola said every human must be guided by the fact that, “We will one day return to our creator.
“We thank God for her life, owing to the numerous praises people present here are showering on her today. She led a purposeful life,” Opoola said.
Present were; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in Kwara State, Hon Rasak Atunwa, wife of the Kwara State Governor, Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Sola Gold among others.
The lawmaker, who is the daughter of renowned industrialist, Prince Samuel Adedoyin died in Abuja penultimate Friday after battling with cancer for two years.
