By Ahmed Ajikobi
The Kwara State Government will this week pay the last instalment to the customary land owners of the old cattle market, Sango, Kulende area of Ilorin.
Speaking with our reporter on Tuesday, the Director General of Bureau of Lands in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Salman, said the state government will pay the last instalment; which is over N5.048 million, this week to the land owners.
Also, when contacted, the counsel to the customary land owners, Akin Akintoye I, said some of the allottees are complying.
“Some have made their payments while others have promised to pay up,” he said, adding that the lands of defaulters would be revoked.
Similarly, the Secretary of the old market, Amasa Solihu, disclosed that for those that have concluded their payment, an agreement form has been given to them to sign.
This medium had reported the payment of the second instalment by the Kwara State Government to the customary land owners in July.
It would be recalled that scores of residents of the area were displaced in May after the land owners demolished some buildings following court order citing failure of the state government and landlords to meet the financial terms for the property.
