Kwara Guber: Politicians enquiring about our platform – SDP

By Mumini Abdulkareem

The chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr Lekan Alabi has said that politicians in the state have enquired about the possibility of using the party to achieve their political ambitions even as he said the party is fully ready to contest the poll.

Besides, the party has also named its governorship candidate for the exercise scheduled to hold next year.

Although the deadline for submission of candidates by parties was Tuesday 6th, 2018, political parties have up till November 17th and December 1st, 2018 respectively to replace their Presidential/National Assembly candidates and Governors/State Assembly nominees.

According to him, the State chapter of the party is ready and open to partnership from any party that wants to work with SDP as regards 2019.

He said “If other parties want to come and join us to wrestle power, we are open to such partnership if they believe in our ideology. We are not subservient to any party because SDP is as strong as any other party in the state and on ground.

“People seeking other platform is a normal phenomenon in the political space because the Nigeria constitution allows free entry and free exit for anybody, there is that freedom.

“Some people (from other parties) have made enquires and others have actually talked to us, that is true, but we are still talking (about possibility of contesting on SDP platform).

“But we are preparing for the poll and our candidates have submitted their forms for the gubernatorial as required. His name is Dr Joseph Olajide Adebola from Isin local government. His running mate is from Kwara North and that is all I can say for now. We are planning to have a press conference next week over this development”, he added.

Alabi said the state chapter of the party is working in consonance with the national body of the SDP in all decisions as it affects the party noting that “we support any directive of the party on any state or national issue”.
