By Ahmed Ajikobi

Luck ran out on two suspected thieves, Yunusa Laisi and Sidiku Wahabi
who were nabbed for alleged  phone theft at Eiyenkorin area of Ilorin,
Kwara State, last Friday.
The duo were said to have  escaped death by the whiskers as they were
descended on heavily by angry mob who  beat them blue and black.
Pilot Crime gathered that the suspects who are residents of Ballah in
Asa Local Government Area of the state, were rescued from the angry
mob by sympathizers.
An eyewitness told our reporter that the suspects had gone to a
vulcanizer for the  repair of the tyre of their motorcycle when the
incident happened.
“While the vulcanizer was carrying out the repairs one of the suspect
stealthily removed phone from back pocket of the artisan.
“But, unfortunately for him, he was sighted by a young apprentice  of
the vulcanizer, who demanded that he should return the phone stolen
from his master.
“Infuriated by the boy’s audacity, the suspect slapped the boy, saying
that he was accused wrongly. The incident attracted people within the
vicinity.
“However, when a check was carried out on the suspect, the
vulcanizer’s phone was discovered in his pocket. He tried to escape
from the scene alongside his accomplice but was nabbed by the angry
mob.”
The source said the people descended on them and later discovered that
the motorcycle was also stolen.
“The suspects confessed  that they have been in possession of the
motorcycle for three months, claiming that they picked it along Ballah
road where it was abandoned.
“They also confessed that they threw away the particulars of the
motorcycle  and replaced the number plate.
“However, some sympathisers at the scene advised the angry mob against
jungle justice, urging them to hand the suspects to the  police,” the
source added.
