We don’t want drug addicts among Unilorin staff, students – VC Warns

 

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, has cautioned members of the university community against drug abuse and excessive alcohol consumption.
Abdulkareem made the statement recently during a sensitisation programme organised for security personnel of the university on drug abuse and alcoholism.
He said that the programme was a welcome development, as it was meant to enlighten members of staff as well as students on the menace of drug and alcohol abuse.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Prof. Bolaji Sule, enjoined the security unit of the university to embrace the initiative and inculcate ethics that would promote viable working environment.
He also promised to extend the interactive session to other units in due course.
In his remarks, the Director of Health Services, Dr Abdulrasheed Odunola, commended the management for the programme aimed at creating awareness on the ills of drug abuse and excessive alcohol intake.
The Director pointed out that the negative effects of drug abuse and alcoholism on staff and students had led to accidents, suicide, loss of lives and insubordination at work, among others.
He said that these undoubtedly had negative effects on the society.
Odunola expressed the hope that the programme would go a long way in fighting drug abuse and alcoholism, thus, creating a more peaceful environment in the university.
He also commended the security personnel for their participation and intelligent contributions during the programme.
He, however, urged them to apply the knowledge acquired from the programme on their job, to ensure a drug and alcohol-free university.


โ€ฆ postpones hostels allocation date for 2018/2019 session

The management of the University of Ilorin has announced new date for the allocation of hostel accommodation to new and old students.
The institution in a statement released recently said, โ€œWe have received appeals from students on the need to shift the date to allow more students to participate in the online balloting due to various challenges been encountered on the processes and procedure for registration. โ€œHence, this is to inform students and particularly the University community that the new date is now Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11am. Please take this as final date for this exercise.โ€
It added that newly admitted candidates are enjoined to get registered to allow the unit open online balloting for them.
It stated further that following the resumption of students for the 2018/2019 academic session, the returning students should note that the allocation of the university owned hostels will be online.
โ€œThe available bed spaces will be uploaded on Wednesday, 14th November, 2018 21st November, 2018 at 11.00a.m. Therefore, all returning students will be expected to cast lots for bed spaces at the above-stipulated date and time.
The time for upload of bed spaces for all fresh students will be communicated in due course.
