2019: John Dara dumps PDP, seeks SDP presidential ticket

Former gubernatorial aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in 2002, John Dara has dumped the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) few months to the 2019 elections in the country.
Towards this end, the former Special Adviser to General Theophilus Danjuma has pitched tent with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) where he is seeking for its presidential ticket.
Dara confirmed the development to our reporter in a text message last night, adding that he was not coming out for the race just to complete the numbers.
The state chairman of the party, Lekan Alabi confirmed the development to National Pilot adding that the party is fully in support of Dara to clinch the ticket.
No reason was given for the sudden switch few months to the election but it may not be unconnected with the leadership crisis rocking the state chapter of the party between Iyiola Oyedepo and Prince Sunday Fagbemi over who is the authentic chairman of the party.
Dara was initially touted as one of the likely chairmanship candidate of the party if the ticket was eventually zoned to Kwara South by leadership of the party.
The development is seen as a major blow for the PDP which has repeatedly failed to unite personal interests and individual aspiration of members of the party that has threatened to tear it apart.
In his response to the issue, Dara told National Pilot in a text message that he did not regret his decision adding he is sure of picking the ticket.
“Yes it is true that I’m I have joined the SDP and seeking for the presidential ticket and I am hopeful that I will win.
“My aspiration is not just to complete the numbers”, he added.
The chairman of the party, Lekan Alabi said the state chapter of the party is fully behind Dara on his presidential aspiration and it will do everything possible to ensure he gets the tickets.
