INEC declares Buhari winner of presidential election

After more than 48 hours of collation, the Chief Retuning Officer and Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declared President Muhammadu Buhari, winner of 2019 Presidential election having met the constitution requirements.
Yakubu made the declaration, exactly 4:39am, yesterday at the international Conference Center (ICC), Abuja adding that a total of 73 political parties participated in the election.
Buhari the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate polled 15,191,847 to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 11,262,978 in the election held last Saturday across the country.
Yakubu said that the registered voters were 82,344, 107, accredited voters were 29,364,209, total votes cast was 28,614,190, total valid votes was 27,324,583 and rejected votes was 1,289,607.
“That Muhammadu Buhari having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest votes is hereby declared the winner,” Yakubu said.
Buhari won the election in 19 states while Abubakar was declared winner in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The APC candidates secured 1, 464, 768 votes in Kano State which was his highest figure while his rival, Abubakar recorded 548, 665 votes in Plateau State which is his highest.
In 2015, Buhari scored 15, 424,921 votes to beat Goodluck Jonatha, the incumbent president, who scored 12,853,162 votes.
Meanwhile, President Buhari in a video posted by Bashir Ahmad, Buhari’s personal assistant on new media, was noticed sitting calmly while the INEC chairman announced him the winner.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the Certificate of Return to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his re-election.
He was declared the winner of the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday after he polled a total of 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who scored 11,262,978 votes.
Buhari was accompanied by his vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo alongside many APC stalwarts and government officials.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, presented the certificate to President Buhari in a brief ceremony at the International Conference centre, Abuja.
