Our student did not commit suicide over handout sales – Offa Poly

The management of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State has denied reports that a student of the school who reportedly committed suicide did so over issues connected to sales of handouts.
The student, of Civil Engineering, Ridwan Ajiboye, was said to have died after he took poison because he was embarrassed by a lecturer over handout proceeds.
The school management said the report was unfounded and false. In a statement issued last Friday, by the school’s Head, Public Relations and Protocols, Mr Olayinka Iroye, the management said it has started investigation to unravel the real cause of the incident.
“The deceased, an ND 1 student of Civil Engineering actually took some quantity of poisonous substance which led to his death days after he was taken to several hospitals for treatment.
“For the benefit of doubt, sale of handouts has been banned for more than two decades at the polytechnic and no lecturer sells handout to students no matter the situation,” Iroye said.
