Resignation: APC replies PDP, others on Ajidagba

The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last night broke its silence on the call by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some other political parties in the state for the Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), Dr Uthman AbdurRahman Ajidagba to resign.

The PDP, some opposition parties and civil groups in the state under the aegis of Like Minds Coalition recently kick against Ajidagba presiding over the conduct of the forthcoming local government election slated for November 18, 2017.

He was accused of allegedly hobnobbing with the ruling APC few months to the election.

But Ajidagba challenged his accusers to produce evidence to back up their claim, adding that he is not a politician and was never sympathetic to any political party.

However, the APC responded to the call for the KWSIEC boss resignation last night, saying that the call was meaningless.

The party which spoke through its secretary, Chief Bode Adekanye further expressed confidence in the leadership of Ajidagba and the entire process.

“KWSIEC has hitherto, been put under unnecessary pressure by the opposition to come up with the timetable for the election for which it has done.

“We wonder why the PDP and some other parties are now coming back asking for my resignation which we see as nothing but an exercise in futility and unnecessarily overheating the polity.

“Before now, the commission called all the parties and proclaimed the dates and the time table for the election. Everybody agreed and nobody raised eyebrow on any issue.

“There is no good reason whatsoever or basis for this call and we cannot give ground for parties to undermine the electoral process.

“To us, the call is meaningless and we restate our commitment and conviction and confidence of Ajidagba to conduct a worthy exercise at the end of the day.

“We are ready for election as a serious political party and have not only shown dedication to serve the people through a very smooth process, we also believe our candidates worthy choices of the people who will represent their people very well.
