The Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the total sum of 162 billion 487 million, 666 thousand one hundred and seventy naira (N162,487,666,170,000) for the 2020 Appropriation Bill.
The budget was passed after considering the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation laid before the House by its Chairman and member representing Owode-Onire constituency, Honourable Ibrahim Ambali.
Some of the members who commented on the budget advised that all sectors be accorded due consideration as enshrined in the 2020 budget through effective oversight functions to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
Speaking after considering the budget in the committee of whole, the Speaker, Honourable Yakubu Danlad-Salihu said the budget tagged “Budget of Reconstruction and Reformation” would go a long way towards the development of the state.
The appropriation bill was increased with four hundred and twenty seven million naira representing 0.26%, increment of capital expenditure from 53 to 55.5% and reduction of recurrent expenditure 47% to 44.9%
The Speaker said the Appropriation seeks to improve on the infrastructure in the state, in the areas of education, health, rural development and social infrastructure.
The House also directs Ministry of Finance and planning to ensure monthly allocation to ministry, department and agencies of government are released on line with the approved 2020 appropriation bill.
The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halemah Jummai Kperogi to forward a clean copy of the appropriation bill to the Governor for his assent.
โฆwrites INEC on vacant seat

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Monday finally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the vacancy into the Patigi constituency seat.
The seat became vacant following the death of Hon Ahmed Saidu Rufai last year December.
According to the letter sent to the commission dated Tuesday 27th, 2020 over the matter and titled notification of a vacant seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly as a result of death through the office of the clerk, the House noted that the vacant seat should be filled in line with the provision of section 116 (2) of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended.
The Kwara State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mallam Attahiru Garuba Madami who confirmed the development to this reporter said the commission will conduct election to the vacant seat 30 days from the time of notification in line with the laws.
He said INEC under him is ready to give everybody a level playing field during the process to conduct improved exercise in the state.
