The 1996 graduates of accounting department, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin on Saturday held a re-union, 23 years after graduation.
The event which took place at Princess Luxury Hotel, Pipeline road, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, was widely attended by members of the set.
Speaking with our reporter at the event, the President of the set, Kunle Olagunju said the motive for the event was to reunite the former course mates after going their separate ways over two decades ago.
“We are here for our maiden reunion. We graduated in 1996 and since then, we have parted ways.
“We came together today to give back to our Alma mata. As the name implies, we want to bring back the past course mates for a common purpose.
“We want to promote the school and give back to the institution in the form of developmental project.”
Olagunju added that the group has registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) following approval from the authority of Kwara State Polytechnic.
“We have a strong synergy with the management of our Alma mata. We want the school to feel our impact and on this note, we have written to the school to let us know their needs,” he divulged.
Speaking further, he said the old students decided to come together in order to synergise and add value to the school and the individuals.
“Right now we have Ilorin clusters, Abuja clusters and the Diaspora. The choice of Ilorin for the maiden edition was burn out of the fact that this is the source where we all met”, he said.
Olakunle, however, charged the students of the polytechnic to face their studies, saying,
“Today, we are what we are in the society because the institution has impacted our lives positively.”
