18-yr-old, one other arrested for illegal possession of firearms

For being in possession of an unlicensed gun, 18- year-old commercial motorcyclist, Kadir Mohammed, operating in Ilorin, Kwara State, is cooling his heels in police cell.
Pilot Crime gathered that he was nabbed by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, recently with a locally made cut to size single barrel gun.
According to a police source, the suspect was arrested during a stop- and- search operation by the security agents along Shao/Jebba Federal highway.
“The suspect and two other persons were riding on a motorcycle with registration number KWARA-SHA 180 UF. They were stopped by officers along the Shao/Jebba highway for routine check.
“The two passengers immediately disembark and took to their heels. But, the motorcyclist was unable to run away and so was arrested.
“When a search was conducted, a locally made gun was recovered from underneath the seat, the suspect was immediately whisked to Shao Division Police Station for interrogation.”
The police source further said that the case was later transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the gun recovered by officers from where it was hidden, belonge to his three-man gang.
“The suspect is currently helping the police to know the where about of the other members of his gang while investigation is still ongoing,” the source added.
In a related development, one Olakunle Ahmed is currently cooling his heels in police net for illegal possession of firearms.
The suspect was nabbed along old Sawmill area, Tanke, Ilorin by police patrol team, recently.
The police recovered a locally made gun, live cartridge and some suspected criminal charms.
According to police source, the suspect, during interrogation at the state Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department claimed that he seized the gun from an armed robber during an attack on him sometime in 2018.
The police source further said that the suspect was not able to give satisfactory account of what he is using the gun for, adding that investigation is still ongoing on the case.
When contacted, the State Police spokesperson DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said, he is yet to be informed.
…another for stealing from Kwara Stadium shopping complex
A middle aged man, Aremu Abdulraheem has been arrested for breaking into a shop at the Kwara State Stadium shopping complex and carting away goods worth N477,500, penultimate Monday, Pilot Crime has learnt.
The suspect was said to have been nabbed by people within the vicinity of the crime scene and handed over to the police.
According to police source, the matter was reported at the ‘B’ Division Police Station by the victim, Funmilayo Owolabi.
“She reported that her shop situated within the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin was broken into by suspected robbers and items valued at N477,500 carted away.
“She further said that with the help of people within the area, she was able to arrest the suspect. And, when search was conducted at the suspect’s resident, some of the items reportedly stolen were recovered from there.”
The items, the source said included Jerseys valued at N25,000, customised ball with NNL logo worth N40,000; three pairs of boot valued at N10,000; among others.
“During the investigation at the police station, the suspect confessed to the crime. Efforts are still on to recover the other stolen items,” the source added.
When contacted, the State Police spokesperson DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said, he is yet to be informed.
