Barring any last minute change in protocol by the Kwara State Government, the Diamond Split Interchange (Underpass) project will be officially commissioned for public use tomorrow (Friday), National Pilot has learnt.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is expected to perform the commissioning ceremony for the project which lasted over two years.
The project, considered as one of the legacies of the outgoing administration, was conceived by the government in order to bridge the infrastructure gap in the state financed through the IF-K model.
It was learnt that workers were still working on the road stretch that connects Sawmill Garage from Geri-Alimi around 9:pm yesterday.
The Commissioner for Works and Transports, Alhaji Aro Yahaya when contacted on the state of the project yesterday said he was in a meeting and promised to get back to this reporter as soon as he was through.
Yahaya who denied allegation that the original master plan of the project had been altered because of time added that people in the industry who are conversant with the project will not raise such doubt.
“That was initially the singsong of the opposition, but that has stopped (with work done so far). I will call you as soon as I am through with the meeting”, he promised.
The Commissioner however, did not get back to this reporter and did not answer subsequent phone calls seeking clarification on the issue.
However, sources said the Governor has concluded plans to commission the edifice on Friday adding that the plan was what accounted for the increased level of work which went into the night and under the use of floodlight.
“Except there is a change in the arrangement which may make the date to be shifted, it is very likely that the governor will commission the underpass on Friday”, the source added.
