The Magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital has sentenced one David James to one year imprisonment over burglary and theft.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that sequel to several reports on house breaking and theft in various student hostels at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, the Nigeria police with concerted efforts of the members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria swung into action.
The development was said to have led to the arrest of David James who was said to have no means of livelihood nor fixed address at his hideout in Malete.
A search on his hideout led to the recovery of items carted away from Amikisaya Hostel belonging to one Oyetunji Oyeniyi. Among the items recovered were; a laptop valued at N70,000, sunglasses and clothes.
It further revealed that James confessed to have sold the laptop at the sum of N10,000 in Ajase-Ipo.
He also confessed to have broken many hostels at Malete.
The suspect had been apprehended several times for similar offences inย Malete.
He was dragged before Magistrate Mohammed Rukayat for criminal trespass, house breaking, theft and vagabonds contrary to sections 342, 355, 228 and 407 of penal code law respectively.
The prosecutor, Matthew Ologbonsaiye prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody.
In his judgement, Magistrate Rukayat sentenced James to one year imprisonment without the option of fine.
