The popular anti-corruption Civil Society Organisation,The Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD),has charged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to immediately prosecute ex-Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed’s administration over claims they stole UBEC grant, if at all his allegation is credible and valid.
The group in a statement issued made by its Coordinator,Dr Abdullateef Alagbonsi, on Tuesday, noted that, “the persistent allegation by Governor AbdulRahman since 2019 that the past administration stole the UBEC grant is weighty and criminal in nature, and should not end on social media or pages of Newspaper”.
The group also reminded the Governor his constitutional duty of abolishing all corrupt practices and abuse of power in line with section 15 (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Re public of Nigeria.
ENetSuD also urged the Governor not to further waste the time of the good people of Kwara over the criminal allegation of embezzlement of public fund.
Adding that the government should immediately direct the Attorney General of the State to prosecute the alleged looters, if truly they had committed the alleged stealing of public funds.
The group stressed that in order not to see the Governor’s claim as a mere political allegation, He should initiate prosecution against all the members of the past administration found culpable in the alleged stealing of the UBEC grant.
Noting that since the Governor has unrestricted access to records and books of spending by the past administration, and his claims about the past administration is expectedly to be guided with fact and empirical evidence that members of the public can rely on.
The group further advised that prosecution of the looters in the public interest will serve the public better than perpetual allegations in the media without any action to recover such funds.
