Masari makes 8-point pledge to Katsina people

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has made 8-point pledge that will enhance security and develop the state to greater heights in the next four years.
Masari made the pledge at his swearing-in ceremony yesterday at Peoples Square, Katsina.
He said โspecifically, I will like to solemnly pledge to you on this day, our commitments to the following critical areas.
โThe critical areas are: sustaining investment in education, increasing investment in agriculture, consolidating the gains of the health sector, and investment in water resources.
โWe also pledge to facilitate wider political inclusion and youth engagement, entrench good governance, promote greater public-private collaboration, and bequeath secure and prosperous Katsina State.
โI submitted these pledges to you, we are committed to their realisation and I am assuring you that the hands that will be invited to join in ensuring this success are capable, dependable, reliable, competent and trustworthy.โ
He said it was the only way to ensure the consolidation of the restoration gains and to guarantee quick results as the state moved to the next level.
Masari said โI want to see a state that is secured from all manner of security threats, a state that is financially buoyant with a happy and prosperous populace.
โWith my team, we hope to bequeath a Katsina State where the well-being of our people will not be measured by the rich, but the absence of poverty.
โThis dream is not an impossible one, but its realisation will depend solely on how dedicated we work in the next four years and even beyond.โ
Masari also commiserated with families of the bandits attack in some parts of the state, saying over 39 persons were killed and 200 sustained various degrees of injury during the attacks.
The governor said that was why the state government decided to make the event a low-key celebration.
Borno Govโs inauguration ends abruptly after he coughed persistently reading speech
Babagana Umaru, a professor, was yesterday, administered with the oath of office as the 7th democratically elected governor of Borno State.
He was sworn in alongside his deputy, Umar Kadafur, by the Chief Judge of Borno State, Kashim Zanna.
The inauguration, however, had to be cut short after Umara coughed persistently while reading his speech.
The new governor takes over from Kashim Shettima, whose eight-year tenure terminated on Wednesday.
While delivering his inaugural speech, Umara said his administration will hit the ground running with a 10-point agenda for speedy development of the state.
He thanked the former governor, for not only assisting him to become governor but also for laying a โsolid foundation of development upon which he would build upon.โ
He said his government will work with the newly established North East Development Commission (NEDC), UN system and other development partners towards the rebuilding of Borno State.
Reeling out his 10-point agenda, Umara said his government will focus on security; education, job creation, and good governance.
He also said there would be the โreplacement of โpolitical thuggeryโ with job creation.โ He said this will be carried out under a proposed Entrepreneurship Development Skills centre.
โThe era of political thuggery, known as ECOMOG, has constituted a nuisance in the state for over two decades.
Umara stated that the restoration of security will be the number one cardinal agenda of his government.
He said he will support the Nigerian security agencies to ensure that Borno State is made safe again.
The governor said he would support the Nigerian security in the area of acquiring and deploying modern security technologies for more effective tackling of insecurity in the state.
The professor of irrigation engineering said his government will invest massively in the area of agriculture, especially by establishing buffer zones in locations that are secured by the military โin order to return Borno as the food production hub of northern Nigeria.
