Between statesmanship and brinkmanship

As expected, especially by his teeming supporters, Gov. Abdulrahman
Abdulrasaq has been up and doing since assuming office. He has been
going around to inspect the state of infrastructure and government
facilities. At every stop, he readily restated his resolve to put the
state back on track, not failing to impress the need for patience and
renewing the hope and expectations of his supporters. To me, this is
a welcome development. Critical appraisal of the state of things
before settling down to chart a way forward is the best approach to
good governance. To successfully manage a situation, you have to
thoroughly know the situation. Like I noted in my last write up,
election is over. Politics should take the back seat. All hands must
now be on deck to take kwara to the promised land. But the governor
must lead the way by extending hands of brotherhood to all. This is
why I query some of his actions and public comments. Suspension of
Local government chairmen is unwise even if appeared politically
pragmatic. Forget the fact that it has become a fad among the
governors across party lines, Gov Abdulrazaq could have stayed away
from the madden crowd. If others are engaging in acts of illegality
on the alter of politics, must he join them? Forget the argument that
the council chairmen were only suspended, that is being clever by
half. The Supreme Court judgement on the removal of elected chairmen
of local government by governors described the practice as “ executive
recklessness “ which must not be allowed to persist. I feel the word
recklessness is mild. Executive irresponsibility should have been the
more appropriate description. I believe the governor should allow the
suspended council chairmen finish their tenure and spare the state
this political rascality with its attendance consequence.
Scary landing
The American Airlines flight from Miami to Charlotte,North Carolina
took of smoothly. And its two hours glide across the clement blue sky
was not different. Passengers were made more comfortable with light
refreshments. Nothing prepared any of the passengers for the rough end
of the journey. The pilot had announced his descent and directed the
fasten of the belts. The aircraft descended slowly while passengers
adjusted for landing. The landing however threw all off balance. The
aircraft’s tires hit the runway with tremendous force causing the
aircraft to shake violently. Terrified passengers clutched back of
their front seats while others gripped the arm rests or fellow
passengers . Eyes popped. Breathings ceased. Shock silence pervaded
the inside of the flying metal. Upon landing, the plane shot madly
across the runway, swerving slightly a couple of times. Passengers
were still quaking with fear. So,America people sabi fear too. Then it
started reducing speed when it appeared it was never going to stop.
And when it finally stopped, passengers were still too shocked to
breath or talk. Then the pilot’s voice broke in: “ well, we made it “
That brought passengers back to life as the entire cabin erupted in
laughter. Sighs of relief reverberated the cabin. “ Jesus Christ! This
the worst landing experience I have ever had “ a fat young white man
sitting next to me said, still looking dazed with fear.
“That was a close one, scary “ another one bellowed with relieved
laughter. It was indeed a close one, and we thank God for our safety.
