Tragedy occurred in the Oke Andi, Sango area, Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday when a father, simply identified as Abubakar allegedly beat his 10-year-old daughter, Hauwau to death.
Pilot Crime gathered that the man pummelled his child for not attending the after- school Arabic lesson on the fateful day.
According to a neighbour, who craved anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said the man though a drunkard does not indulge school truancy by his children.
“He was grieved when he discovered that his daughter was not among the children who were returning from the Arabic School situated in the neighbourhood that day.
“Despite the fact that he is known for his drinking habit, he valued acquisition of Arabic/Qur’anic knowledge.
“He met Hauwau at home and questioned her on why she did not attend the Arabic school, but when his daughter could not give satisfactory answer, he descended on her.
“The cry of the girl attracted neighbours who pleaded with the father to stop the beating to no avail. Their pleas for him to leave the remorseful girl fell on deaf ears,” the source added.
Hauwau was said to have slumped and died in the course of serving punishment after the beating received from her father.
” He told his daughter to kneel down and raise up her hands and in the process, she slumped and gave up the ghost.
“She was rushed to the hospital by her dad, where she was declared dead on arrival.”
It was learnt that the man later turned himself in at the Kulende Police Station, Ilorin for the murder of his daughter.
When contacted yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, said he was yet to be briefed on the case.
