Chieftaincy/Land Tussle:  Suspected hoodlums allegedly murder Ganmo prince

By Ahmed Ajikobi

There was pandemonium at Ganmo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State as the son of the traditional ruler of the community, Ibraheem Kolawole, was murdered by suspected hoodlums over land and chieftaincy tussle.
The 27- year-old prince was said to have been murdered in cold blood by his assailants on Monday.
It would recalled that in 2013, a similar incident occurred which claimed the life of one of the princes, Ismaila Kolawole.
Speaking with our reporter on the latest development, the elder brother of the deceased, Prince Yekini Kolawole, said Ibrahim was with his wife at the entrance of his apartment when about four suspected hoodlums stormed the area.
“I was not around when the incident occurred but his wife called and told me that some thugs in the community attacked her husband and that he gave up the ghost in the process.
She said when the hoodlums arrived, they asked him (the husband) if he has any ‘gift’ for them but he said he does not have much money on him and that they should manage whatever the wife brings from the house.
“After the wife had left for their demand, the suspected thugs I was told started stabbing my brother and they escaped after executing their evil act,” he narrated.
Speaking on the genesis of the matter, Kolawole said, the issue is age-long.
“The issue is between us and the Idi-Ape people who settled down at Ganmo. They sold one of the lands given to someone by my father, Oba Kolawole.
“One of the hoodlums went to the land and sold it but my departed brother who normally checks the landed property met one Muri Koko who sold the land challenged their action. His decision to challenge them may have led to his being stabbed and subsequent death.”
Speaking further, he alleged that the Idi- Ape indigenes who resettled at Ganmo were fighting for what does not belong to them.
“They are claiming that they also have license to the throne of Oluganna. They forgot they have lost the case in court, a day to the last general elections. The judgement had long been passed and won the case in court.
“Since then, they deployed thugs in the area despite the fact that, wrote petition to the police and DSS.”
Speaking further, Prince Kolawole said the suspected hoodlums attacked him about two weeks ago but he reported the matter to the DPO of Ganmo police station.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the area commander were in the community for the on the spot assessment.
When contacted on the development, the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said the matter is under investigation.
He added that the CP has deployed officers to ensure the arrest of the suspects who are presently at large.
