Responsibility House wins Skill Builders Academy’s inter-house Games

Responsibility House emerged champions of the 2019 Inter-house Games of Skill Builders Academy, Oloje area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The two-day event which was rounded up at the school premises last Thursday was in commemoration of the World Health and Fitness Day.
Responsibility House won 5 Gold medals, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze to emerge the champion while Creativity House    placed second with 4 Gold medals and 7 Bronze. Excellence House with 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze and Wellness House with 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze came third and fourth respectively.
In his welcome address, the Director of the school, Mr Abdul Adebayo Dan Azumi said the Health and Fitness Day is in line with the core values of the school. He added that the number of events to be competed has increased from eight to fifteen in this year’s inter-house Games.
“This year’s event will cut across all ages from Reception 1 to Primary 5 and the children have been divided into four houses.
“Aside from aligning with the World Health Organization (WHO) calendar, we are also using the event to promote sportsmanship, team spirit, sense of appreciation and healthy rivalry among the learners,” Dan Azumi said.
He however appreciated the parents for providing refreshments for the event and for their commitment towards the education of their wards even as he assured that the school will continue to impact knowledge and character in the students.
In his remarks, the Guest Speaker, Dr Mohammed Kolade Solagberu, who is the Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), speaking on the topic; Fitness and Wellness, said, “We must ensure we eat balanced diet always and refrain from too much intake of carbohydrate.
“When carbohydrate is stored in your body, the excess is converted into fat and this is very dangerous to your heart. It can block your blood vessels and this leads to many diseases in women such as fibroid. ”
He however charged the public to maintain good health habit through regular exercise, sleeping, desisting from smoking and alcohol intake.
On his part, the Director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Council, Coach Tunde Kazeem enjoined the parents to encourage their wards to partake actively in sports saying, “Sports is now a big business as no President in the world earn as much as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and the likes.
“In subsequent editions of your inter-house Games we will be glad to make the stadium available to your school so that your learners can have access to first rate facilities.”
