Ilorin Durbar: C’ttee gets vehicle from ex-governorship aspirant
In a bid to ensure smooth running of the programmes and activities of the forthcoming durbar ceremony scheduled to hold later in the month, the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee has been presented with a Sienna space bus by a former gubernatorial aspirant in the state.
The vehicle was personally received by the Emir of Ilorin and chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari at a ceremony held at the front of the Emir’s Palace on Wednesday.
While addressing reporters on Wednesday shortly after the handing over of the vehicle, Alhaji Saliu Mustapha said the gesture was aimed to promote the cultural heritage of Ilorin in line with community service.
According to him, “If you have my antecedents and how the durbar started, (your will remember that) I even did more than this. This is a way of contributing our quota in promoting our cultural heritage. If we forget our heritage, then we will have nothing to write home about or to even teach our yet unborn generations.
“So that to me is part of service to the community and making sure the Ilorin heritage is promoted in due course. It is an opportunity to express gratitude to Almighty Allah through the cultural hegemony of our people.
“It adds colours for people to know what kind of tradition they have, because every locality has its own peculiarity. These are colourful events that will happen during the durbar”, he submitted.
The chairman, Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee, Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa, in his remark described the festival as a common bond for all indigenes of the emirate adding all necessary arrangements would be put in place to ensure a hitch free ceremony.
While thanking the donor for the routing gesture to the success of the ceremony, Alapansanpa urged other well to do indigenes of the emirate to emulate the former gubernatorial aspirant.
The annual event, billed for the second day of Eid-el-Kabir festival, is the second edition and expected to hold at the frontage of the palace of the Emir’s palace.
