Land Tussle: How I escaped being killed by Fulani men – Kwara ERCAAN scribe

But for divine intervention and the brevity of a police officer, the General Secretary of the Estate Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria (ERCAAN), Kwara State chapter, Prince Adeyemi Adegoke would have been lowered six feet underneath after he was attacked by two Fulani men at Airport area, Ilorin on Saturday.
Prince Adegoke on the fateful day said he led a client, one ASP Aliyu on an inspection of the expanse of land (200 plots) he acquired last September from the head of Osere family, Alfa Abdullah El-Hassan.
Adegoke, who is the Business Manager of G Plot Nigeria Limited, said, “I was at the site around 5pm on Saturday to show a client and a friend, ASP Aliyu, the level of development on the land. Surprisingly, two Fulani men emerged from the nearby bush wielding gun and other dangerous weapons.
“We initially thought they were heading elsewhere until they asked us in tattered Yoruba, ‘what are you doing on our land? I told them it was my land but they replied that we are going to receive the beating of our lives.
“Before we could respond, they pointed their gun at us and were about shooting us but for the quick response of ASP Aliyu, who brought out his pistol. As soon as they sighted the pistol, they ran into the bush. We tried to locate them but they escaped.”
Speaking further, the estate agent said the incident was reported at the Airport Police Station around 6:15pm on Saturday. He however said the policemen on duty asked him to check back on Monday for inspection of the site.
“The policemen could not visit the site with us on Saturday because it was already late, so they asked me to report back on Monday (today). After leaving the Airport police station, we headed straight to the police headquarters to also report the unpleasant incident.
“I am still in the dark why the Fulani attacked us over the expanse of land which I acquired almost a year ago in order to build estate for my clients,” he lamented.
