65-yr-old remanded in Ilorin prison over alleged rape of minor

65-year-old Saka Adeoye was yesterday, remanded in prison custody by the Kwara State family court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) in Ilorin.
Adeoye, who resides at Block 1 Niger road, Ilorin, was brought to court by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command.
He was charged for the offence of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child contrary to section 31 of Child’s Right Act 2003 punishable under same and Procuration of Minor Girl contrary to and punishable under Section 275 of the Penal Code Law of Nigeria.
According to the Police First Information Report, the matter was brought before it by an unidentified complainant who accused the old man of taking advantage of the innocent girl.
The complainant stated that the defendant deceitfully lured the minor into his room under pretext  of wanting to send her on an errand.
The NSCDC added further that the old man used the advantage of being the girl’s neighbour to have carnal knowledge of her.
Investigations conducted by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the NSCDC through medical test carried out at the Specialist Hospital, Alagbado revealed that the defendant actually had intercourse with the minor.
The medical report also revealed that the girl sustained bruises while trying to prevent the ugly occurrence.
He was remanded by Magistrate Shade Lawal of the family court while the matter was adjourned to 28th August, 2019.
