3rd JAMB Tourney: Unilorin edges defending Champion 1 nil

The University of Ilorin yesterday defeated Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic,
Zaria to emerge Champion of the 3rd edition of JAMB Tertiary
Institutions Football competition.
The “Better by Far” institution trashed the Kaduna boys by a lone goal
to emerge champion of the annual competition sponsored by the Joint
Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Recalls that the Kaduna boys had beaten the Professor Sulaiman
Age-boys by the same margin in last year’s edition of the competition.
The lone goal in this year’s finals was scored in the first five
minutes of play by the Unilorin boys. The two teams defied the
torrential rain that rendered the whole pitch water-logged throughout
the 90 minutes of play.
The Unilorin side suffered a mild setback almost immediately after
scoring their lone goal  as their goalie suffered some injury and had
to be replaced but luckily for them the replacement made some heroic
safes for their side.
For coming first, the Unilorin boys got a whooping a million naira as
the current reigning champion of the competition.
Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic went home with seven hundred and fifty
thousand naira for coming second in the competition while Ekiti State
University, Ado that had earlier defeated Federal College of
Education, Gombe 3-2 to win the third place match went home with a
prize of N500, 000.
Kwara Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was represented by
the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital
Development, Hajia Mariam Garba commended the sponsors for supporting
football development.
The final was attended by federal and state officials, as well as JAMB
officials.
