Quranic Recitation Competition: Unilorin student, another Kwaran emerge winner in memorisation 

Four competitors from Kwara State, impressed and won prizes at the National Qur’an Recitation Competition which ended last weekend in Katsina State.
They are Aisha Ahmad Abdul-Rauf Apaokagi who came 4th in the memorisation of two-third of the Holy Qur’an in the Female category and Taofeeqah Alafara – a Medical student of the University of Ilorin who came 1st in the memorisation of two Hizbs – also in the Female category.
In the Male category, Muhammad Nurudeen also from Kwara State, came 1st in the memorisation of 10 Hizbs of the Holy Qur’an, while Muhammad Jamiu Imam-Fulani emerged 3rd in the 2 Hizbs competition.
Altogether, Kwara State competitors won a new car, a tricycle,  two motorcycles, a sewing machine and cash of  more than N1 million. In addition, all participants were given N50, 000 each.
Bauchi State however won the highest category of the male competition while Borno State went home with the highest category of the female competition.
The winners for the two states were Ameer Yunusa Guru (Bauchi) and Amina Aliyu Muhammad (Borno State). The duo became national champions in their categories featuring memorisation of the Holy Qur’an with Tajwid and Tasfeer (running of commentaries on some portions of the Holy Book). They were both presented with new cars in addition to other valuable prizes.
A total of 32 states took part in this year’s competition just as a total of 142 competed for honours in the contest organised by Usmanu Dan Fodiyo Uniiversity, Sokoto.
The 10-day competition witnessed huge turn out with President Muhammadu Buhari represented at the closing ceremony by the Minister of State for Transportation, Sen. Hadi Sirika.
Also present was the Governors of Katsina and Sokoto Hon. Aminu Bello Masari and Hon. Aminu Tambuwal. The Kwara State contingent was led by the state Coordinator,  Alh. Waliyyullahi Aliyy-Kamal.
