Following the repayment of the N4.2 billion loan facilities obtained from banks by the previous administrations of the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State, indication emerged on Monday that all categories of workers in the LGs will receive full salaries for February 2018.
While addressing journalists, the ALGON Chairman who is alsoย ย Chairman of Oyun LG, Comrade Joshua Omokanye made the disclosure after the state monthly Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Hall, Ilorin.
According to him, the 16 LGs would share N792,169,042.64 for February 2018, asย theย Stateย Universal Education Board (SUBEB) teachers got N1,082,855,618.42 billion from this month (February ) allocation.
He explained that the local government areas have repaid the N4.2 billion loan facilities received by their predecessors to pay workers’ salaries, saying that the balance of another N620 million loan would be repaid in two installments.
Omokanye explained that the committee has agreed thatย ย all categories of LGs and SUBEB workersย ย would receive full salaries this month.
He said that LGย and LGEA pensioners wouldย receive full pensions this month as the amount stoodย at N437,294,540.41 ,revealing that 10 per cent IGR from state government has increased from N47,696,391.06 in January to N127,060,757.30 this monthย and Value Added Tax (VAT) of N509,596,906.16 were also shared.
ALGON boss explained that statutory allocation for the month of Februaryย ย ย stood at N1,958,287,816.03 as against N1,975,209,334.17 in previous month.
The Chairman explained that the fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account which included; Teachers salary N1,082,855,618.42;LG and LGEA pension N437,294,540.41 among others.
He further explained that the distribution of the allocations among the Local Government Councils in the state was done in accordance with section 4(2) of the state Joint Local Government Account Law (cap80) as amended by Law 15 of 2001.
“The fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account. JAAC was assembly of 16Local Government chairmen without the inference of state government”, he stated.
