Civil servants posted to the Government House have expressed frustration and anger over the directive ordering them to stay away from the facility.
Some of the affected persons who confided in National Pilot over the issue expressed shock over directive which was reportedly issued last week.
Although some of those affected claimed no circular was issued to that effect, the claim could not be ascertained at press time last night. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye did not answer nor return the call put to him for clarification on the allegation.
It was gathered that many of the affected civil servants have been “floating” around offices as a result of the sudden development, a source said.
According to one of the affected staff in one of the departments inside the Government House, they were locked out from the Government House by security operatives since last week allegedly on the directive of the Governor.
“What we learnt is that the action was premised on alleged leak of classified sensitive government documents. But the treatment was insulting and embarrassing. Many of us, if not all were seconded to the Government view a letter and not verbal pronouncement. Where is that done in the civil service?
Another civil servant said, “We don’t know where the directive came from, on Thursday, getting to the Government House, he security directed that everybody should go to their respective ministries and nobody was allowed in. That is how it has been since last week even till on Tuesday. But the situation is gradually easing out. Even those that swept the Government House were seconded from the office of the Head of Service”, he added.
Speaking on the issue, a one-time secretary to the State Government said according to the civil service rules, staff that have any issue cannot just be verbally redeployed without an official letter adding that if one errs in the civil service, the first is to issue a query.
“You will be allowed to answer it and after that, a committee will be set up which will go all the way to the Civil Service Commission. But on the issue of transfer, it is the Head of Service that normally handles that” the former officially added.
The Chief of Staff, Dr Aminu Logun during the Town Hall meeting by Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe said that government will have to change many of its present staff to effectively achieve its plans to better the lots of Kwarans.
