Investigate official involved in Adeosun’s certificate scandal, group tells FG

The Nigerian Youth Decides (NYD) has called on the Federal Government to investigate the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate scandal of ex-minister, Kemi Adeowun adding that henceforth political appointees should be properly screened before nomination.

It condemned the government for allowing the case of the ex-finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun to degenerate to the level of resignation before talking about it.

Speaking in an interview yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State Mobilisation Director, Daniel Ayantoye, said such act of forgery if not guided in the future is capable of affecting the NYSC scheme through the issuance of its certificates.

“It is the system that has allowed for such thing. How can we say such person decided to collect a forged certificate despite knowing the consequences?

“The Federal Government and government at all levels need to stand up to their responsibilities and ensure anyone who is to be appointed into any office is properly screened. The documents should be adequately checked before approval,” he stated.

Ayantoye however called on the FG to set up a panel to fully investigate and punish those that issued the forged certificate to the ex-minister adding that many of such certificates could still be in the system.

“Yes, those involved need to be persecuted, there must be adequate investigation by the security agencies on this particular issue. We should not just allow it to die down without making findings on the questions yet unanswered. Somebody was involved in the issuance of the certificate hence NYSC needs to be investigated as well.

“While doing this, we should also be mindful of discouraging Nigerians who have lived all their life in oversees and desire to come home and serve from doing so.

“Recall that the former minister after resigning flew back to the United Kingdom and I am sure she wasn’t happy with how her service in the country has turned out.

“If there needs to be a special order of giving such group of people an exclusion certificate, then let it be done and made public instead of them falling into the hands of fraudsters who will only issue them fake certificates.

“Many of those forged certificates could still be out there, you can’t say hence there is the need for thorough investigation by the FG.”
